Hey now. Happy New Year to you as well.
The recovery is slow but sure. I have been back to work on a part-time basis since the beginning of December and will be back to full-time on Monday. That will be the first time I have been able to work full-time hours since August. The hips are still a little tender especially if I have to do any lifting, but I think they may have finally gotten it right this time. Looks like I'll be good to go come Spring and will be able to garden, mow the lawn, etc. The wife is almost TOO happy...
How's your knee? I noticed you mentioned favoring it a little at the DSO show you posted photos of. Our bodies don't recover like they did when we were younger huh?
Hope all goes well for you and yours in the New Year.

A HAPPY ONE...

Liam, I have always felt that a post on this site should link directly to a show or a song. That is the real issue. If its not about the music, then what is it about? Lots of wasted space spent on inside jokes that few get.

True enough, BUT, relative to what was going on here in 06 and 07, I'd say there are many more informative posts these days (LiA for example). Me, I am guilty in the first degree of what you describe, but I view it as "filler"...of course, the angry posts (today) or the true spam, are filler too, but I suppose less tolerable (though clearly Dan Healy and no doubt others probably rank mine with the trolls, right?).

My primary point is that there has been more info exchanged of late than in the earlier days, and though that might be do to a few, overall, the board functions well in three fashions. First, there are simply more posts among regulars (admittedly, these are of the type you might not care for, but once regulars have become regular, it just makes sense they use the Forum as a "chat room" to some degree; catching up, cracking jokes, etc.). Second, the likes of posters like LiA mean that there is considerably more info being exchanged, and others have followed suit, posting links to "write ups", other sites, etc., that have provided the opportunity to read more in the past month than I had in the first yr or two here. Third, the newbies that have arrived, and provided new input, along with the regulars, means there is significantly more input on any particular topic. As my own example, for 12-29-68, I post on it in depth about every six months...the amt of feedback I rec'd in the first three yrs could fit in a thimble, but two days ago I rec'd much more (partly newbies, partly folks with a new appreciation, partly some that felt comfortable enough to say "hey, what do you mean?" and so on and so forth).

So, putting that all together, for me anyhow, it more than outweighs the crap you have to ignore...

Now, I hear what you and Liam are saying, and in fact, I spent the first six months suggesting there be more rules, etc., etc., but frankly, the problems then, and the good stuff, were much fewer and far between...once I decided it wasn't going to change, I gave up, and think that in spite of all the bad, it actually improved (again, no fault of mine of course).

Of course it is mainly about the music....but it is also about "hanging out". and interacting with all the good people that enjoy common interests including the music and the band but it not only the music and the band....there was a lot more going on than that when we (most of us anyway) went to see this band at shows... to limit our interactions between us about only a song or a show would be selling ourselves short....

The way I see it, this is business as usual at the LMA.
Did you really think it was better before? Seriously.

Ah--my point exactly...two or three yrs ago not much happened here as often as it does now (the good stuff, info exchanges, etc). Sure, there is also more bad stuff, but it is easier and easier to ignore...

Kman, seriously, I understand you've been hurt, offended, maybe even "legally wronged" in some sense, BUT, as I said before, does it really accomplish anything to spend all your time here lamenting it? Much less violating the official rules of the board by returning the favor? You really cannot hide behind "I am only doing what was done to me!"....did CLIFF post your ISPs? You do know this board does not allow that anymore than spam, right?

But, the real trouble is it actually makes you look pathetic--I know that sounds harsh, but if you really had a site that occupied your time, if you really enjoyed it and wanted any of "us" to come over, you'd be there too busy to even respond to something along these lines...

Really, you would.

The posts have always been very informative on this site. It is a place I come to every day, even if I post way less than say two years ago. Lives change, Jobs change, free time to speak about your favorite band changes... I think for folks like Liam who have been around these parts for many years the posts can start to look unfamiler and even unfriendly at times. You are right that the knowledge keeps getting better and so the posts are filled with great insights - With more folks chiming in the little theatre we once filled with friends has now become a stadium filled with people we hardly recognize. Stilll the music sounds just as good, only you have to work a little harder to find a good seat... happy new year and this Capt. will surely keep on truckin'...

It's for sure that it looks unfriendly at times now...And I can appreciate that it's tougher for folks to find a good seat (good one), but I just don't think it's "worse" as some--many even?--have implied.

As evidence, I could go and get my old posts, but that would take too long, and it's really not worth it, so I'll just note that in the months of Dec and Jan (06-07), I and a few others here "quit" the site repeatedly over misbehavior, trolling, etc., etc., etc.

I guess my point is that the site has ALWAYS had problems, and will continue to do so (no doubt), and thus it's always been and always will be "take the good from what you can, and ignore the rest"...

Have a good one CC! Always recall you as one of the good guys...

No offense, Liam; but trust me...you have missed the most informative, information dense posts if you haven't been here the last two weeks...sure, there's a bunch of crap now and again, BUT anyone that doesn't recognize this place is BETTER at what it does, in spite of this minor diversions, really isn't paying attention.

This is not meant as a slight; it's the simple truth. I've been here going on four years, and it's NEVER been better.

Seriously. Just ignore the flotsam...

Have a great New Year, L!

Its off the charts. Sometimes I think it is all about the Greatful Dead and everyone else is obsolete. I love the positive attitude of the users too!

Hello Mr Finnegan - I was wondering when you last posted. NYE.

You should come back. I dig your recommendations.

Fantasy Baseball is around the corner. What do ya say? How 'bout gettin' the Yodas back together?

I'm thinkin' about calling my team the Winterland Wussie Wompers. Keeping with the natural progression of absurd Grateful Dead related fantasy baseball team names

Yep; just think of how great the board has been the last couple of weeks...I told you it wasn't that bad; how can anyone argue with these being the best of times at the Forum?

Hmmm, is cause Dire's too busy to post? Or Tito's too busy finding NC's address, while k-man is driving to CLIFF's as I write this?
